Another Mexican restaurant has opened in Owensboro. Roque Gonzales and his family recently opened Jordy’s, and they want to provide a unique experience for customers. Jordy’s is located in the former Penguin Point building off Frederica Street near the bypass.

Jordy’s, officially located at 830 Chuck Gray Court, opened for business on August 4 and since then they have seen the customers slowly fill the restaurant during lunch and dinner rushes to enjoy their take on Mexican cuisine. In addition to a dining area inside, the restaurant also offers a drive-thru.

Gonzales’ family operates the the whole business from the front to the kitchen, making everything fresh when ordered. Their menu ranges from classics like arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) to special dishes such as Jordy’s Camarones — grilled shrimp stuffed with poblano peppers wrapped in bacon with guacamole, rice, charro beans and a salad on the side.

“I want to make something different and something better and serve good quality and service. Something better for the customers,” Gonzales said.

One of the focuses on the menu is the seafood collection, where they try to find different items to introduce. Gonzales said the menu is about 50% traditional classics and 50% their own recipes.

Gonzales has worked in a number of other restaurant locations spread throughout the Commonwealth.

Opening his newest location in Owensboro, he has learned that the community here has been very understanding and supportive of them during their first month.

“The people here are very nice people. We haven’t had any complaints from the community and almost 95% of people here understand that we’re busy and we may have them wait,” Gonzales said.

This location does bare a closeness to the family, as it’s named after Gonzales’ son who died about 7 years ago. The restaurant offers a way to continue his name and legacy, and the family tries to keep his spirit with the restaurant.

“Every day I feel happier when I come in. I thank the people every time they come in. Every new person, I try to thank them,” he said.
