John's trusty frying pan is good for more than just whacking slugs or the evil miasma. In fact, our silent protagonist of Eastward is actually an amazing cook! With a whole myriad of ingredients to discover in shops throughout Eastward, the combinations are vast, and John's range of cooking even more so.
These delectable dishes are not just for good eating, each one brings its own benefits to the table, with buffs for increased hearts, extra gold hearts, and more. These are the top ten recipes to experiment with in Eastward.
Hot Pot
Nothing screams "comfort" quite like a steaming hot pot, and so it is no wonder that this hearty dish has so much to give in Eastward. Traditionally a shared dish in many parts of the world, prepared by submerging raw ingredients into a pot of simmering broth, Hot Pot will grant John a buff of +5 Hearts, +2 Gold Hearts, and +20% Energy. You cook up your own Hot Pot for two by combining any Meat, Seafood, and Vegetable ingredient.
Pizza
Everybody loves pizza. In Eastward, Pizza loves you too. Just imagining a delicious, cast-iron pizza prepared on the stovetop by good old John is enough to get your mouth watering.
Combine any Fruit, Meat, and a Dairy or Egg ingredient, and you will find yourself with a personal pizza good for +5 Hearts and +3 Gold Hearts. Through a Pineapple into the ingredients mix, and you technically have yourself a classic Hawaiian pizza.
Sushi Platter/Diet Set
There are a few dishes that can be cooked up by combining very specific ingredients if you can figure out the right combo. If you throw any basic Seafood, Meat, and Dairy or Egg ingredient into the pan, you will end up with a Sushi Platter. Meat in sushi? A bit strange, but with a buff of +5 Hearts, +3 Gold Hearts, and +20% Energy, we will gladly try a bite. For something a little less out-there than meat sushi, you can combine Chicken, Egg, and Lobster to create a Diet Set bento box. On-the-go and battle-ready.
Sweet and Sour Pork
A Chinese takeout staple, Sweet and Sour Pork is yet another specialty of John's. Typically prepared with pork, onion, bell peppers, and pineapple, all you need to whip up a plate of this is Fruit and Meat ingredients. With only two ingredients, you can combine any two Fruit with one Meat, or any two Meat with one Fruit. Juicy, crunchy, and sweet, Sweet and Sour Pork will buff you with +5 Hearts and +4 Gold Hearts, making it a whopper of a meal when you find yourself close to death.
Taco
It's Taco Tuesday any day as long as John has Ribs, Tomato, and Lettuce in his backpack. These ingredients can be harder to come by in Eastward, but if you find any of these in stock at a vendor, it is well worth it to buy them up. Just one Taco will refill you for +6 Hearts, another recipe great for topping yourself off when you have taken one too many hits.
Mushroom Pasta/Lasagna
The fullness we have all experienced after sitting down for a hearty Italian meal makes it no surprise that these two time-honored Italian pasta dishes grant great buffs. Toss together some Ham, Milk, and Mushroom to cook up some delicious Mushroom Pasta, reminiscent of no doubt of a delectable marsala sauce.
For another Italian classic, you can also put some Tomato, Cheese, and Pork Belly into John's pan and serve up a cheesy skillet lasagna for Sam. Yum! Either recipe will give you +6 Hearts and +2 Gold hearts.
Oyakodon
This Japanese dish is a rice bowl which literally translates to "parent-and-child donburi". A tad morose yet certainly accurate, this recipe can be prepared with Dairy or Egg and Meat, though usually it would of course be made with chicken and egg, with some sliced scallion thrown into the mix. Chowing down on this tasty rice bowl will grant a buff of +6 Hearts and +3 Gold Hearts, another great recipe to have on you if you are in dire straits.
Pork Chop
One, singular Pork Chop, coming right up! Jokes aside, this recipe is one of the most filling dishes you can cook in Eastward, giving you a boost of +7 Hearts whenever you eat it. To make this recipe, all you need is any combination of Meat and Vegetable, making it one of the easiest dishes to make as well. Simple, but effective is always the way to go.
Red Braised Pork Belly
Also known as Shanghai-style Braised Pork Belly, this Eastward recipe is the game's take on a renowned Chinese dish that is typically prepared with ginger, garlic, chiles, star anise, light, and dark soy sauce, and many more aromatic ingredients. Eastward simplifies this dish just a tad, because all you need to make Red Braised Pork Belly is... Meat. Ironically, although a recipe like Lasagna calls for Pork Belly specifically, any Meat will do the trick. Soon you will be dining on a meal worthy of +8 Hearts.
Meat Zongzi
Comparable in its preparation to a tamale, Zongzi is yet another traditional Chinese recipe that Eastward brings to the table (literally). Zongzi is made by stuffing a sticky rice mixture with filling, typically meat, wrapping in bamboo leaf, and then steaming or boiling to create a lovely sticky rice dumpling. To make one yourself, all you will need is any Meat, Dairy or Egg, and Vegetable ingredient. With a buff of +8 Hearts and +2 Gold Hearts, Meat Zongzi is one of the best recipes in Eastward, giving more hearts overall than any other recipe.
