How many times does it happen that people come unannounced in the home? Well, the older generation might be familiar with this concept but the millennial people are still adjusting to it. When guests come over unannounced, it takes a while to process and decide what to offer them. But, how about some recipes that are quite easy to make and can help in instantly cooking lunch/dinner? Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, fried vegetable pakoras make the most of just about any vegetables of your choice. They taste best with mint-coriander chutney and tamarind & sonth chutney. These bhajias or pakore can be made with a variety of vegetables like potato, cauliflower, spinach leaves, onion, or paneer.

We all have some leftover rice lying in the kitchen. How about turning them into a delicious dish with all the veggies that are lying unused in the refrigerator? Toss them in some olive oil/butter with onion, garlic and colourful veggies, and it’s a dish they will love for sure!

This recipe is something we all must have tried on a day, when there is no room for ordering! Mix some rava with some salt and water and add a packet of Eno or fruit salt into it. Mix well and make some fresh and soft idlis in no time. Enjoy them with your favourite chutney or cut and toss them in some onion and tomato, and a new dish ‘Fried Idli’ will be ready to eat.

No one can deny the freshly made Egg Bhurji with some hot chapatis! Fry some onions in a kadhai with some freshly chopped garlic and tomatoes and break the eggs in it. Fry them all for a few minutes, and the hot Egg Bhurji is ready to eat.

This is a dish anyone can cook in a few minutes. All it needs is 5-10 minutes soaking and cooking in enough water for 1-2 whistles. Meanwhile, add the chaunk of tomato-onion into it and put some butter on top. Enjoy with some rice or chapati!

It’s a one-pot dish that can be made for those uninvited guests, and trust us, it’s going to be the best. Soak biryani rice for 10 minutes and meanwhile, fry some veggies in enough oil. Put them all together and steam cook in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles. We are sure, your guests will be drooling over it.

This is one of the simple dishes that can be made in a hurry. All it needs to be done is, heat some oil and saute hing and jeera in it. Once done, add freshly washed green peas and cook for 10 minutes. The fried green peas will be ready in no time. Enjoy with hot chapatis and it would not require any other thing.

Did you know, it only takes a few minutes to boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker? Boil some potatoes, peel them over and put a chaunk of hing-jeera, and toss the roughly chopped boiled potatoes with simple spices like red chilli powder, dry mango powder and salt. They will be ready in just 15 minutes and tastes incredible with plain paratha.
