Cooking Mama is a staple cooking game series and Cookstar is the latest game added to the collection. Available now for all on Nintendo Switch and PS4, Cooking Mama: Cookstar still has all the fun of Mama's Kitchen without the real-life risk of burning your dinner. With added vegetarian mode and 90 recipes to unlock, you can cook up many traditional and fun new dishes from around the world.
The game also now incorporates multiplayer mode with party games and a two-player co-op. Once you've created your dishes you can snap a photo and share and upload your delicious creations to Facebook and Twitter. With so many different recipes in both traditional and vegetarian mode, there's plenty to cook. Here is a selection of both classic and unique dishes that are fun to make or look aesthetically stunning to share with your friends.
Rainbow Grilled Cheese
The Rainbow Grilled Cheese is a colorful dish you will want to try and make yourself at home. One of the first dishes you make in the game, it surely stands out. It is a simple recipe, with only seven steps to make it, but the end presentation is the best photo snap opportunity.
It also starts to show you some of the cooking techniques that are common throughout the game and Mama is always there to fix things if it goes wrong. With different plating options and filters that really brighten the rainbow effect, you'll want to share your creation.
Sushi Platter/ Veggie Sushi Platter
The Sushi platter is a much longer dish to make as there are more ingredients to cook and present on the plate. With nine steps to complete, the dish represents Japanese cuisine, with traditional techniques too. The platter features Kappa Maki and Nigiri Sushi and uses ingredients such as Nori (seaweed), wasabi, and sushi vinegar.
The plating up allows you to add more of each sushi roll type to your dish as you wish. You can even overfill the plate if you really love sushi. The dish also really suits the fancy setting for a photo with the plate's presentation layout.
Beef Lasagne/ Vegetable Lasagne
The Lasagne is a big dish to make as it involves making both the lasagne pasta sheets and the sauce filling before then assembling it into layers to make the traditional Italian lasagne. With over 13 steps, you make the sauce first, then make your pasta from scratch, before combining them to cook together.
This dish is fun to make as it challenges you to use the various cooking techniques Mama has taught you, and learn some new skills with the pasta machine to make fresh pasta. It has different plating options and will definitely make you hungry as you prepare it.
Bubble Tea
There aren't many drink recipes in Cooking Mama: Cookstar, but the Bubble Tea is interesting to learn how it's made, particularly the tapioca pearls. Bubble Tea also known as Boba Tea, originates from Taiwan. Over 13 steps, you mostly spend time making the iconic pearls that make a bubble tea and then the drink to mix with it.
This recipe adds some new techniques such as shaking the mix and slicing up the ingredients but not with a traditional knife. It has a few different end presentations which all look cute in the picnic backdrop setting for your final photo.
Pork Shumai/Mushroom Shumai
Shumai is a dumpling dish originating from Cantonese cuisine. It is essentially, steamed dim sum dumplings with added pork or mushroom. The recipe has seven steps and uses traditional ingredients of soy sauce and wonton skin to represent Chinese dumpling recipes.
This dish introduces folding techniques as you have to wrap the pork or mushroom ingredients into the wonton skin to make the dumpling and quickly steam them to cook. When presenting, you can sprinkle as many spring onions as you wish onto your plate and snap a photo with the traditional chopsticks included on your plate. Mama makes it look easy to make though compared to actually folding dumplings.
Pancake Breakfast With Bacon/Pancake And Grilled Pineapple
The Pancake Breakfast is one of the last and final recipes you unlock in the game. In 12 steps you make all the individual ingredients for a full breakfast you plate up together at the end. This dish uses the skills and techniques that are frequent throughout the game across all the dishes.
This recipe largely stylizes from the American Breakfast with a stack of fluffy pancakes, sunny side up eggs, potato, and grilled bacon or pineapple. Add any sauces you wish to your final presentation from ketchup to maple syrup, and celebrate completing the final recipe in the game.
Salisbury Steak/Jackfruit Salisbury Steak
Salisbury steak is a traditional dish originating from the United States that offers a hearty homemade meal. It consists of a patty, mashed potato, vegetables, and a serving of mushroom gravy. In ten steps you prepare the patty with all the seasonings, peel and slice the vegetables, and boil the broth of gravy.
It isn't an overly complicated recipe; you can add steak sauce over your dish at the end presentation else it is plated as it is. It is more a recipe that warms the soul and a reminder of home, and will make you crave a homecooked dinner after you've finished cooking for Mama.
Rolled Thai Ice Cream
Rolled Thai Ice Cream is a beautiful dessert dish you must eat before it melts. Originating from Thailand, this dish has gained popularity across the world and is also known as stir-fried ice cream or just rolled ice cream.
It is a simple six-step recipe that incorporates the techniques of mashing the ingredients together on the frozen plate and flattening the mixture before scraping off the rolls of ice cream. Presented in a tub with lots of biscuits and sweet treats, this dish is pretty to show off on your socials to your friends. Snap a photo in the picnic setting of this tempting summertime treat.
Galaxy Smoothie
The Galaxy Smoothie is a more unique drink full of fruits, yogurt, and galactical swirls of glitter. It has seven steps in the recipe, mostly repeating methods of using the blender to make the different colored smoothies which are then swirled together to give the galaxy effect.
Although simple to make, the end result will leave your friends in awe. You can sprinkle loads of candy stars over your finished drink to add to the galaxy theme. A great beginner starting-out recipe to introduce you to making drinks in the game, it is simple yet Instagram-worthy results in the end.
Beef Burrito/Tofu Burrito
The Burrito is a very appetizing balanced dish consisting of beans, rice, and beef or tofu all wrapped up neatly in a tortilla ready to eat. Burritos are Mexican dishes that are a part of Tex-Mex cuisine. The dish has nine steps to make including catching all the ingredients into the wrap before folding it according to Mama's instruction into the perfect burrito.
The burrito is served up with tortilla chips which you can add various dipping sauces to. It suits the diner and kitchen settings in the photo mode. Making this dish will leave you hungry for more Mexican food.
