There’s just something about Chicken Parmesan. It’s that versatile comfort food that fits in at any potluck, game day gathering, or even an elegant dinner.

Food Network chefs Giada De Laurentiis, Tyler Florence, and Ina Garten earned the distinction of having the three top-rated Chicken Parmesan recipes on the culinary channel’s site. And they each make use of cheese in a very unique way.

Ina Garten’s Parmesan Chicken recipe is No. 1 on Food Network’s site despite lacking one ingredient

The Barefoot Contessa star’s Parmesan Chicken recipe has a pretty basic ingredients list: boneless skinless chicken breasts, flour, salt, pepper, eggs, water, seasoned bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, butter, and olive oil.

Once each cutlet has been dredged in eggs and breadcrumbs then fried in the olive oil/butter combination, it’s topped with salad greens tossed with Garten’s tart and tasty Lemon Vinaigrette dressing.

With over 600 five-star reviews, it’s Food Network’s top chicken parm recipe, even though it’s missing what many cooks consider a key ingredient for this dish: mozzarella cheese. While there’s no “mutz,” what the recipe does have is heavy praise from home cooks.

“This is definitely the best parmesan chicken I’ve ever had,” one reviewer wrote, while another added, “I have seen Parmesan encrusted chicken breasts done by so many chefs, but Ina’s is the only way to go. You cannot mess this up.”

Giada De Laurentiis’ Chicken Parmesan leaves out the bread crumbs

The chef’s chicken parm recipe comes in at No. 2 on Food Network’s site. While Ina Garten’s recipe dispenses with the mozzarella cheese, De Laurentiis does sprinkle it on, choosing instead to take a pass on the bread crumbs.

“Chicken Parmesan is an Italian-American classic,” De Laurentiis says in the Food Network video for the recipe. “Chicken cutlets seasoned with lots of fresh herbs, bathed in marinara sauce and cheese. My Chicken Parmesan is lighter and easier to make than any you’ve had before. And it’s even more flavorful.”

The recipe’s nearly 600 five-star reviews on Food Network’s site agree. “Really liked the herbs and the taste of the chicken and sauce shine through rather than heavy breaded and fried chicken. Brava!,” one home cook wrote.

Praising the recipe’s lightness, another reviewer noted, “You will not miss the breading. What a great way to lighten up a classic Italian dish.”

Tyler Florence’s Chicken Parmesan uses a unique ingredient

The popular Food Network chef’s Chicken Parm recipe parts company with Garten and De Laurentiis’ recipes with his inclusion of kalamata olives. Plus, instead of the shredded mozzarella that De Laurentiis uses, Florence instead goes with fresh buffalo mozzarella in his recipe. And it’s a hit with over 500 home cooks.

“Delicious and easy! Love the addition of the kalamata olives to add such distinctive flavor,” one reviewer said, while another wrote, “Made this for friends tonight. Easy, dependable, quick. Great recipe!! Thank you, Tyler!”
