Also lemony, bright and perfect for afternoon tea, make Julia Ostro's lemon and almond yoghurt cake, complemented by roasted strawberries. It's simple to mix up and doesn't call for equipment beyond a bowl, whisk and cake tin, which we always love.

Part cinnamon scroll, part cardamom morning bun, this baking project encompasses the best bits of both. Thanks to the lemon zest, along with the hint of cardamom, they're light instead of overly sweet.

And if you choose to bake these buttery lemon and almond shortbread biscuits, the smell will wash gloriously over you. They also have a wonderful texture, thanks to the roasted nuts.

These roasted nectarines with nut crumble and lemon cream make for a deliciously sweet dessert — but why limit yourself to one serving a day? They're also perfect as a breakfast treat, served with yoghurt.
