Winter comfort carbs, plus there's a quiche and delicious hazelnut baking for a Sunday – from Stuff cooks Sam Mannering, Nicola Galloway, The Caker Jordan Rondel and Cloudy Kitchen’s Erin Clarkson.

1. Sam Mannering's gnocchi alla Romana

This is a gorgeous recipe. It’s cheap, it comforts, and requires little technical skill, provided you don’t drop it like I did before baking.

Gnocchi is usually poached, but in this case, as the Romans do, you are baking them into submission instead. I take liberties with the addition of sage; usually a simple tomato sauce is the accompaniment, but add whatever you like - crisp bacon, a scattering of slow cooked mushrooms, some soft curd cheese, a bit of roasted pumpkin. Yes please.

2.Sam Mannerings’s cacio e pepe

I will make no apology for the beige-ness of this recipe. At this rate, it’s about whatever will get us through to the end of this putrid time of year. Winter means winter food, after all.

Nobody wants to be pecking away at salad at this time of year. And so, as in a lot of situations, the solution is carbs. We want carbs. The summer body can wait.

3.The Caker's hazelnut and rooibos baby cakes

These delicate little cakes not only look cute as anything, they are also completely free of refined sugar and gluten, and are perfect for a special breakfast treat.

4.Cloudy Kitchen cook Erin Clarkson’s Nutella chocolate chip cookies

Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favourite things to bake, and adding chunks of Nutella is a super easy way to level up the recipe.

Piping Nutella onto a piece of baking paper and then freezing it while you prepare the cookies gives you pockets of Nutella, along with swirls of it through the dough. Just the best.

5.Nicola Galloway’s pumpkin, red onion and thyme quiche

I have made this quiche a number of times recently and it is well worth the effort involved. You could also double the ingredients and make two quiches, one for you and one for a friend.

6.Nicola Galloway’s pumpkin, hazelnut and orange cake

This is a flavoursome, moist crumb cake. No pre-cooking of the pumpkin is required, as it uses finely grated raw pumpkin (see details in the recipe).
