With fall’s arrival, a nice warm, hearty dish of comfort food will soon be a popular order at many restaurants.
Our restaurant panel, The Neighborhood, comprised of local food bloggers and vloggers put their collective minds together to make some suggestions on where to go for comfort food in Wichita. As active eaters (and supporters) of our local dining community, I asked The Neighborhood to share what restaurants they would recommend to everyone. Here’s their thoughts!
Fert The Foodie
Comfort food can mean different things to different people. Most of the time it’s dishes that reminds a person of home cooked meals they loved growing up on. Maybe Grandma’s famous meatloaf, or the homestyle chicken & noodles that Mom would make on a cold winter day. Sometimes we need food to comfort us.
There’s a few local restaurants that come to mind when thinking comfort food. Number one is probably Doo-Dah Diner. Just like with Grandma, they don’t cut any corners, everything they make is from scratch. Along with all the breakfast favorites, they have awesome meatloaf and chicken fried steak.
Another great comfort food restaurant in Wichita is Caesar’s Table. They have a lunch buffet that is full of homestyle dishes. While some items rotate daily, they always have stuff like fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, and coconut catfish. And the delicious chicken pot pie soup, nothing is more comforting to me than that.

When asked about my Top Comfort Food Restaurants, I really had to consider what I consider to be “comfort food.” As I have experienced food from other cultures it has been clear that every culture develops its own unique comfort food. With very few exceptions, I have thoroughly loved these unique items. These are a few local restaurants that I tend to gravitate back to time and time again.
Angelos Italian Restaurant: Some of my earliest memories are eating with the family at Angelos in the strip mall on the north side of Harry. Strips of pickled eggplant and melba toast from the salads are likely embedded in my DNA. I have enjoyed a multitude of fantastic items including the Supreme Pizza and Eggplant Parmesan, but the name Angelos is synonymous with Manicotti with the house-made Italian Sausage. It is rich and full of fantastic flavors. I am thrilled that they are still around with the same recipes!
Doo Dah Diner: I have spent more time and meals than I would care to admit in diners across this fine country. I believe that diner food is a mixing pot from a variety of cultures that have refined themselves into dishes that are uniquely American. Doo Dah Diner is the first restaurant that introduced me to how food that I have known my entire life can be elevated by using a few quality ingredients in a well-thought out and flavorful balance. Their Biscuits & Gray, Beefy Doo Dad, and Green Chile Breakfast Burrito have been a necessary stepping stone into my interest and appreciation of Culinary Arts.
750 Soul: I have spent a good deal of time in the Southern States and I love the food. My experience has taught me that you immediately stop and eat when traveling the Mississippi River Delta and running across a restaurant in a house. Things like Neckbones, Cabbage, and Gravy are full of rich flavors that meld together in a way that can only happen over time with low heat and a lot of love. Nothing really says Comfort Food to me like Soul Food does and 750 Soul has it in the Wichita area. I will be having the Sweet Potato Pie while I’m at it!
Just Try It
Little Saigon has been my go to comfort food in Wichita, long enough that it’s my daughter’s favourite food. There’s just something about a bowl of Pho with some drip coffee that makes everything right in the world.
Napoli Italian Eatery is a place that feels like home. With their monthly rotating menu it keeps us coming back and never disappoints. Their recipes are truly unique and definitely have that home cooked, comfort food feel.
Prost has recently moved into comfort food for us. There’s just something about that Schnitzel that keeps us coming back for more. And that house salad is the perfect balance against the heavy dishes.

Growing up in a primary Vietnamese household, we didn’t have your traditional comfort food favorites at home often. Dishes like chicken and noodles, meatloaf, beef stroganoff didn’t many appearances at the dinner table. So, it makes sense that I throw in at least one restaurant where I could get rich, hearty Vietnamese dishes like Bò Kho, Pho, Bánh Xèo and more. For us, that’s Thao’s Bistro. Nothing says fall to me like a bowl of Bò Kho with some French bread on the side.
Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant: In the world of Peruvian food, you can’t find any better comfort than Gabby’s. Whether it’s arroz chaufa and seco de carn, Gabby’s will whip up any dish that reminds her of a beautiful autumn day from her native country.
